Mark Nugent in 88 Words
The Marriott School asked if I would produce a series of videos (three originally but changed to five) that encouraged those who were multicultural to apply to the Marriott School. It soon became evident that I simply needed to allow such current students to have their voice. We started with one and filmed an hour interview with him. Trying to edit it down was murder. I had been studying a new concept (to me) of a 55-word short stories. After some experimentation it was clear we needed a little more than that for the videos. I asked a designer, “What number around 100 looks best typographically? He responded, “88.” So, I had each student tell there story in 88 words exactly, not 89 or 87. It was simple and powerful. I especially enjoyed this one from Mark Nugent.
Jed Wells directed and shot 88 words. James Guymon did the music. Kelly Nield the titling.
